SECTRE is an accredited Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 Seafarer Recruitment and Placement Service (SRPS). SECTRE has been accredited by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).
As a company we strive to meet the highest recruitment standards and shall endeavour to fulfil each and every requirement of the MLC 2006 convention. SECTRE commits to the following statements in delivering our accredited recruitment service:
SECTRE does not recruit seafarers under the age of 16 years old
SECTRE shall verify the identity of all suitable candidates and seafarers
SECTRE shall not levy a fee to any candidate or seafarer for recruitment, placement or employment services
SECTRE shall ensure the ship owners understand that they are liable for the cost of visas required by the seafarer when joining, leaving the ship and, if required, when the ship calls at a port.
SECTRE shall ensure that all seafarers are informed of their rights and duties under their employment agreements prior to or in the process of engagement. SECTRE shall also ensure the proper arrangements are made for seafarers to examine their contracts before and after they are signed.
SECTRE shall ensure placed seafarers recruited or placed, are properly qualified and hold the necessary documentation for the job concerned, and that the employment agreements are in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and any collective bargaining agreement that forms part of the employment agreement.
SECTRE shall ensure that seafarer’s are given a Seafarer Employment Agreement (“SEA”) signed by both the seafarer and the ship owner/ ship owner’s representative
SECTRE shall ensure that seafarers are advised of any particular conditions applicable to the job for which they are to be engaged and of the particular ship owner’s policies relating to their employment.
SECTRE shall ensure any documents submitted by the seafarer are treated with confidentiality
SECTRE will check that all Client SEA’s conform to all minimum requirements and necessary particulars for MLC 2006 compliance.
SECTRE is insured to compensate seafarers, for monetary loss that they may incur as a result of the failure of SECTRE or the relevant ship-owner under a SEA to meet its obligations to them.
SECTRE shall ensure seafarers are given a document containing a record of their employment on board the ship and such document shall not contain any statement as to the quality of the seafarers work or as to their wages.
SECTRE has initiated the process of ISO:9001 quality assurance accreditation with the Lloyd’s Register
SECTRE hereby informs all candidates of the risk associated with signing an employment agreement which does not conform to the MLC 2006 convention or the risk of accepting employment on board a ship flying the flag of a country which has not ratified the MLC 2006 convention.
